ConnectWise ScreenConnect Free

Welcome to ScreenConnect Free!

ScreenConnect™ Free is a remote access solution that’s hosted in the cloud. Each account will have a custom URL that can be accessed from virtually anywhere with an internet connection. Use ScreenConnect Free to create remote connections to an unattended machines. 

What's included

With your ScreenConnect Free account, you can create one ScreenConnect Free site or “instance.”

Free instances are limited to:

  • 1 user that can make 1 connection
  • 3 access agents
  • Remote access

14-day expanded feature trial

When you create your ScreenConnect account, you will have access to other features for free for 14 days:

After 14 days, you can continue to use your free account with limited features, or you can switch to another package. To get started with your trial license and connect to another machine, see our remote support guide.

Documentation-only support

ScreenConnect users can find support by browsing ScreenConnect documentation. Chat, phone, and access to the forum are provided for partners with paid instances. 

No account recovery

Starting March 2, 2020, if you lose access to your Free account, you will have to create a new account. We recommend manually uninstalling your existing access agents before starting over with a new Free account.

2. Pick a URL for your ScreenConnect Free instance

3. Enter your email address and create a password

Enter your email address and a secure, complex password, and then submit the form.

4. Wait for your activation email

5. Log into your new ScreenConnect site 

Go to your site (e.g. http://yoursite.screenconnect.com) and log in with your email address and password.

Set up your first access agent

 

1. Log into your ScreenConnect site

Open a browser and log into your ScreenConnect site. After authenticating, you can then access the ScreenConnect Host page.

2. Build a new access agent

Click the Access icon.

Pick a name for the access session that will be created by this installer. From the drop-down menu, select either:

  • Use Machine Name – Label the access session by the name of the machine
  • Use Specific Value – Enter your own value.

For access sessions, there are four custom properties fields enabled by default: Company, Site, Department and Device Type.   You can enter additional information for your session using these fields.   

Tip:  Turn on additional custom fields from the Appearance page.

Tip: You can save time by picking a previously-entered value from a drop-down menu.

 

Select from these installer options:

  • Windows (.exe) – Will fetch a compatible version of .NET if the target computer does not have it
  • Windows (.msi) 
  • macOS (.pkg)
  • Debian Linux (.deb)
  • Red Hat Linux (.rpm)
  • Mac/Linux (.sh)

Next, pick a way to share your installer:

  • Send Link – Email a link to the installer. Enter the email address of the recipient, or you can click the Open in email client link to compose an email in your default email client.
  • Copy URL – Copy a link to download the access agent installer. Click Copy to save the link to your clipboard.
  • Download – Download the access agent installer in your browser.

When you've delivered the agent, click on the X to close the Build Installer window.

3. Install the access agent on a machine

Run the installer on your machine to install the ScreenConnect agent. See our article on installing the access agent for specific details for different operating systems.

4. Connect to your session

Once you have installed the agent, the remote machine will be listed in the Access section of your Host page. Double-click on the session to join it. You will see a prompt open that will guide you through the connection process.

5. Conduct your remote access session

Once the guest has connected to the session, you can use the features of the host client, such as Blank Guest Screen or the File Transfer menu, to interact with the remote machine.
